About The Restaurant
The World Garden Café restaurant in the town of Leh (India) is located pretty close to the main market area just off the turn into Chanspa. The garden restaurant/bakery serves quite a wide variety of food, see for yourself, the list just goes on. They serve Chinese, Continental, Indian, Israeli, Mexican, Tibetan, Thai, Tibetan and much more. Personally, I got worried seeing the vast menu, it got me thinking, will the food be good?
It is an open air restaurant, the look is very simple just bare necessities. I saw big tables, some under the trees and some under pitched tents, all placed on the gravel ground.
This restaurant has no view as the walls of the place are quite high with a narrow door which serves as a passage for us.
The very first thing I would like to start off with is the entrance, it is very deceiving, upon just glancing it looks like a compound wall of a courtyard of a village home. We ourselves almost missed this restaurant, we spotted the board on top which was barely visible as the branches of the trees were covering it up.
As we had walked a lot today because of the shopping and had reached the end of the road we decided to head inside and check this place, we were too tired to lug all our bags and walk all the way back to our Thar which was parked at the opposite end of this area. I walk through the narrow door and see a pretty large courtyard with trees, seating tables, and tents. I make my way down the concrete steps and we choose our table which is under the tent. Our wide wooden table was draped with a wider checkered table cloth, this reminded me of all those picnic scenes I see in the English movies
At first glance and feel I can say it is a nice place that is matching with the theme garden, apart from a luscious green patched lawn it does give a garden feel. Nice area to just sit, relax with friends and hang for a while.
It took a while to get some service after we browsed through the menu we ordered some dishes. We started with some hot chocolate. It was served in a thick medium sized glass, it was piping hot, I had to stir it for a while until I could take a sip. The flavor it gave was just the chocolate powder kind and not in a good way. We just had a bit of it.
Next, we jumped right onto the main dishes, we had a vegetarian burger and a vegetarian pizza.
The burger came with all the fixings and was presented well, it had chopped up cubes of salad which was lightly tossed with seasoning, the sesame burger was toasted which formed a crisp top and was filled with mayonnaise, slices of salad, lettuce leaves, and a patty. I was not found of the patty that much it felt a bit bland and was too soft but we totally loved the fries that came on the side. We loved it so much that we asked for a plate of just fries, they were warm and the texture was not of the traditional fries but it was pretty good.
Our pizza arrived just in time and all hot, it was a wood fire pizza. If you are lucky you can actually watch them make it in the mud kiln. It was not the best wood fired pizzas that I had because I did not like the taste it gave. Maybe it was the yak cheese, I just can’t put my finger on it.
I wanted to try a cookie but I felt it cost a bit much, Rs 20/- for a cookie, what do you guys think?
In short, the food/quality and quantity is decent, service and the ambiance could be a trifle better. As it is an open air restaurant, it could get chilly later in the evening depending on the season you visit and let’s not forget the rain. There isn’t anything amazing about this restaurant, but it was on the good scale compared to the others.
Need to make reservations: Don’t know, we just walked in
Cuisine : Multi-Cuisine, veg / non-veg
Cost : It’s was a little pricey for us (a cookie costs Rs. 20/- in this bakery)
Parking : Has no parking and finding a spot nearby is hard
Has only Outdoor Seating
Does not have Wheel Chair access
